Job description

Substitute Teacher (or Paid Coach) Application Process

Thank you for your interest in the position of substitute teacher (or paid coach) with the Greater Egg Harbor Regional High School District. The district offers an "on call as needed" position to substitute teachers at a flat rate of $150.00 per day, no benefits. Substitutes filling paraprofessional or secretary positions receive a flat rate of $110.00 per day, no benefits. Board‑approved paid coaches receive a stipend. All substitute teachers that do not accept at least 10 assignments per school year may not be board approved and could be removed from the roster.

Applicants must have either a NJ teaching certificate, a substitute certificate, or be eligible to apply for a substitute certificate. To be eligible to apply for a substitute certificate, an applicant must have completed at least 30 college credits. All applicants must be cleared by the New Jersey Criminal History Review Unit and approved by the Board of Education. Substitute certificates issued by the State of NJ are valid for 5 years. A substitute teacher who graduated from a specific school in our district within the last three years may not be permitted to work in the same building until year 4 post‑graduation.

A teaching or substitute certificate is also required for paid coaches and unpaid volunteers. Unpaid clinicians are not required to obtain a substitute teacher certificate. If a paid coach does not hold a NJ teaching certificate, they are required to obtain a substitute teacher certificate. Paid coaches may also substitute teach if they wish.
