Job summary

Manistee Area Public Schools is seeking a Substitute Teacher to provide classroom instruction and student supervision in the absence of the regularly assigned teacher. You will follow the teacher's lesson plans and maintain a safe, orderly environment.

Responsibilities include monitoring student participation, reporting concerns to school staff, and complying with health, safety, confidentiality, and school policies. This is a temporary, school-day assignment with fingerprinting requirements.

Qualifications

• Certified teacher positions require a Temporary Teaching Authorization or a valid Michigan Teaching Certificate.
• Non-certified positions require 60+ college credits with a 2.0 GPA and a valid Michigan or out-of-state certificate.
• K-12 fingerprinting requirements apply for instructional staff.

Responsibilities

• Report to the school office at the required time, sign in, obtain assignment materials and instructions, and return required materials before leaving.
• Review and follow lesson plans, schedules, classroom procedures, and school expectations provided by the classroom teacher or school administration.
• Provide instruction, learning activities, and student support appropriate to the assigned grade level, subject area, and classroom setting.
• Maintain a safe, respectful, orderly, and inclusive learning environment using established classroom-management practices.
• Actively supervise students during classroom instruction and, as assigned, during arrival, dismissal, passing periods, lunch recess, or other school activities by monitoring student behavior and the surrounding environment, recognizing verbal, visual, behavioral, and environmental cues, and responding promptly to safety concerns or requests for assistance.
• Monitor student participation and work, provide reasonable assistance, and adapt within the scope of the provided lesson plan and school direction.
• Follow student health, safety, emergency, confidentiality, behavior-support, and accommodation procedures communicated by the school.
• Promptly report significant behavioral, safety, medical, or other concerns to the principal, designee, or appropriate school employee. Communication with parents or guardians should occur only when directed by authorized school personnel.
• Maintain accurate notes regarding completed work, attendance information when assigned, classroom events, and any matters requiring follow-up by the regular teacher or administration.
• Protect confidential student and school information and comply with applicable Edustaff, district, and school policies and procedures.
• Perform other related duties consistent with the assignment and as directed by the building principal or designee.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

PHYSICAL AND COGNITIVE REQUIREMENTS

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work is performed in a school environment and may involve moderate to high noise levels, frequent interaction with students and staff, changing assignments, and exposure to typical classroom and school conditions. The employee is responsible for supporting student safety and maintaining appropriate supervision throughout the assignment.
