Job summary

Independence Preparatory Academy in Fairfield, AL is seeking an On-Call Substitute Teacher to support grades K-8 by delivering prepared lessons, maintaining a safe and engaging learning environment, and covering for regular teachers as needed.

You will foster positive classroom culture, supervise students, take attendance, and communicate with school staff while adhering to policies and procedures. This role offers flexible scheduling and opportunities for longer assignments.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent (minimum).
• Previous classroom or substitute teaching experience.
• Ability to pass all required background screenings.
• Strong communication and classroom management skills.
• Alabama Substitute Teacher Certification (if applicable).
• Bachelor's degree preferred.

Responsibilities

• Implement lesson plans provided by the classroom teacher.
• Foster a positive, respectful classroom culture.

• Maintain accurate attendance and classroom records.

Independence Preparatory Academy is a new, academically challenging, highly structured, and joyful K-8 school in Fairfield, AL. We are on a mission to equip all students with the academic tenacity and strength of character necessary to choose their destiny and create a fulfilling life. We develop empowered learners through agency, purpose, and tenacity. In August 2025, Independence Preparatory Academy opened its doors to 60 students in kindergarten through second grade. We will continue to grow until we reach a total capacity of 485 students in kindergarten through eighth grade. Position Summary The On-Call Substitute Teacher provides classroom instruction in the absence of the regular teacher while maintaining a safe, engaging, and productive learning environment. Assignments may vary by grade level and subject area based on school needs.
