POSITION OVERVIEW

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Substitute Spanish Interpreter/Translator to support our school district in bridging communication gaps between Spanish‑speaking students, parents, and staff members. As a Substitute Spanish Interpreter/Translator, you will play a crucial role in ensuring effective communication and understanding within our diverse educational community. This is an on‑call position, and you will be called upon to step in when our regular interpreter/translator is unavailable.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Proficiency in both Spanish and English, with exceptional oral and written communication skills in both languages.
  • Must successfully complete the Spanish Language assessment with a score of Level 10 or higher.
  • Previous experience as an interpreter and translator, preferably within an educational setting.
  • Familiarity with education‑related terminology in both Spanish and English.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and cultural sensitivity, with the ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills to handle assignments on short notice.
  • Demonstrated professionalism and discretion when dealing with confidential information.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Interpretation:
    • Provide accurate and clear interpretation services during meetings, parent‑teacher conferences, classroom activities, and various school events.
    • Facilitate communication between Spanish‑speaking parents/public and English‑speaking staff.
    • Interpret in real‑time, ensuring that the intended message, tone, and context are conveyed accurately.
  • Translation:
    • Translate written materials, such as letters, forms, educational documents, and announcements from English to Spanish and vice versa.
    • Maintain consistency in terminology and language style to ensure clear understanding across translations.
  • Parent and Community Engagement:
    • Act as a cultural liaison between Spanish‑speaking parents and the school, helping to bridge any cultural gaps that may arise.
    • Participate in parent‑teacher conferences and school events to provide interpretation services as needed.
  • Confidentiality and Professionalism:
    • Maintain strict confidentiality regarding sensitive information shared during interpretation and translation assignments.
    • Uphold a professional and respectful demeanor at all times, adhering to ethical standards of the interpreting and translating profession.
  • Flexibility:
    • Be available on an on‑call basis.
    • Adapt to various school settings, grade levels, and subject matters as needed.
