Job summary

Qualifications

Job description

There is no guarantee of placement on any given day and no ongoing expectation of placement.

Position Summary

This position acts as a Spanish translator between the school and parents/students.The position may also perform a variety of routine clerical and office tasks in support of teachers and other district staff.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Act as bilingual interpreter (possibly in a variety of languages depending on the need). Facilitate effective communication between students, their families and the schools during conferences, meetings and other activities.
  • Attend trainings as needed.
  • Work flexible hours based on needs of students and their families which may include evening activities.
  • May assist teachers and/or other educational staff in conducting home visits.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Fluency in Spanish or other various language(s), both spoken and written required.
  • Knowledge of correct grammar, spelling and English usage.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, staff and community service providers.
  • Desired personal characteristics including flexibility, enthusiasm and compassion.
  • Experience working with families with low socioeconomic status.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
LICENSES/SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
  • FBI and Washington State Patrol background clearance required.
  • May be required to complete training in First Aid and CPR as required by the District.
  • Washington State Driver’s License with a good driving record.
  • Access to reliable transportation.
