Qualifications

• Licensed under 18 Pa.C.S. Ch. 61 Subch. A with exceptions defined by the district.
• Certified under Act 235 (Lethal Weapons Training Act) with exceptions.
• Background checks completed under Public School Code and related statutes.
• Active law enforcement officers may be exempt with evidence of training completion.
• Retired law enforcement officers may be exempt if they meet specific criteria.

Responsibilities

• Support students to help them succeed in class and school community.
• De-escalate student misconduct and respond to incidents promptly.
• Maintain assigned post and remain at post unless directed otherwise.
• Respond to incidents and fights using Safety Care skills.
• Patrol school property and monitor access for unauthorized persons.
• Monitor interior and exterior door security.
• Redirect or escort individuals from the property when needed.
• Report unusual activity to the School Safety Coordinator or administrator.
• Complete incident and misconduct reports; deliver reports on request.
• Assist with locker organization and locker searches.
• Enforce visitor protocol at entrances and ensure authorized access.
• Participate in ongoing professional development to grow security skills.
• Lead traffic control at student arrival/dismissal at Grandview.
• Build positive relationships with students and staff to maintain a safe environment.
• Foster respectful interactions with students at all times.
• Assist in de-escalating behaviors to maximize learning time.
• Serve in emergency response during crises (fire, tornado, active shooter).
• Coordinate with local police per MOU with Derry Borough Police and PA State Police.
• Utilize Microsoft Office and Google Office tools.
• Perform any other duties assigned by the School Safety Coordinator.
