Job summary

Pocahontas County Schools is seeking a Substitute Bus Operator to provide safe, reliable transportation for students on an as-needed basis. The role requires maintaining certifications, following WV policies, and ensuring compliance with FMCSA and state regulations.

Training and licensing will be completed as part of the onboarding process, with duties including student supervision, route documentation, and emergency readiness.

Qualifications

• Must obtain and maintain a valid WV CDL with passenger and school bus endorsements.
• High School Diploma or GED.
• Must pass background checks per state law.
• Must pass required physical examinations and drug/alcohol testing.
• Must complete School Bus Operator Certification Program.
• Demonstrated ability to perform the duties of the position.

Responsibilities

• Operate school buses and other transportation vehicles safely and legally according to policies and regulations.
• Transport students to and from school and school-sponsored activities.
• Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of assigned vehicles.
• Maintain route information, student rosters, mileage logs and required documentation.
• Supervise students and assist with students with disabilities as required.
• Respond to emergencies and implement safety procedures as needed.
