Job summary

Calallen Independent School District Transportation in Corpus Christi, Texas is hiring a Substitute Bus Driver to operate school buses safely on assigned routes. The role requires a Texas CDL with P and S endorsements, 18+ years old, and the ability to pass USDOT tests and safety trainings.

The substitute driver will report to the Director of Transportation, handle pre/post inspections, manage student behavior, and ensure on-time performance for activities, with a focus on safety and compliance

Qualifications

• Clear and valid Texas commercial driver’s license with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements
• Must be 18 years of age
• Ability to pass USDOT alcohol/drug tests and annual physical
• Ability to complete required bus driver safety training
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
• Ability to use maps and GPS to follow routes and locate addresses
• Ability to manage student behavior and communicate effectively
• Ability to operate bus

Responsibilities

• Drive bus daily following assigned route and schedules
• Drive bus to/from extracurricular activities
• Perform pre- and post-trip inspections and report repairs
• Report accidents, vehicle damage, injuries, and mechanical problems
• Instruct and supervise students for safe entering/exiting and crossing
• Maintain discipline and communicate with teachers/parents as warranted
• Operate two-way radio and monitor reports
• Maintain records on mileage, fuel, passengers etc.
