Job summary

LEARN RESC in Southeast Connecticut is seeking compassionate and skilled Substitute Nurses (RNS) to support schools across the LEARN district.

This flexible role provides direct student health services, medication administration, and health-related care under physician orders and school protocols. You will collaborate with school teams to safeguard student health and well-being throughout the day.

Qualifications

• Connecticut RN license is required.
• Bachelor's degree in Nursing is required.
• Experience in school nursing or pediatrics preferred.
• CPR certification required.

Responsibilities

• Provide substitute nursing coverage across LEARN schools and programs.
• Deliver direct student health services, including assessment, first aid, illness response, and monitoring of student health needs.
• Administer medications, treatments, and health-related procedures per physician orders and school protocols.
• Respond to health emergencies and implement emergency care plans as needed.
• Maintain accurate documentation of health office visits, medications, treatments, and communications.
• Communicate with school administrators, families, healthcare providers, and school teams regarding student health needs.

Day to Day

Provide substitute nursing coverage across LEARN schools and programs based on district needs and nurse availability.

Deliver direct student health services, including assessment, first aid, illness response, and monitoring of student health needs.

Administer medications, treatments, and health-related procedures in accordance with physician orders, individualized health care plans, school protocols, and state requirements.

Respond to health emergencies and implement emergency care plans as needed.

Maintain accurate documentation of health office visits, medications, treatments, and communications.

Communicate with school administrators, families, healthcare providers, and school teams regarding student health needs when appropriate.

Support students with chronic health conditions, disabilities, complex medical needs, or temporary health concerns.

Follow LEARN policies, school procedures, confidentiality requirements, and applicable state nursing standards.

Qualifications

Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in Connecticut required.

Bachelor's degree in Nursing from an accredited college or university.

Experience in school nursing, pediatrics, public health, emergency care, or working with children and individuals with special healthcare needs preferred.

Strong assessment, clinical judgment, documentation, and communication skills.

Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with school-based teams.

Comfort providing care in a variety of educational settings and adapting to different school procedures.

CPR certification required; training may be provided if needed.

Salary Range

• Substitute nurse rate based on LEARN's approved substitute nurse schedule.
