Qualifications

Reports To: Principal
Supervises

Assists in the supervision of classroom activities under the direction and supervision of the certified classroom teacher or other designated certified personnel.

Job Goal

To promote the achievement of students’ educational goals and learning objectives by providing supplemental and clerical services to assist the classroom teacher.

Performance Responsibilities
  1. Assists the classroom teacher in the delivery of an effective instructional program.
  2. Works with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of material or skills introduced by the teacher.
  3. Assists with personal hygiene needs for students when assistance is needed due to developmental or physical delays including pulling up pants, snap/button pants, and changing diapers when necessary.
  4. Assists staff with the implementation and monitoring of student behavioral programs.
  5. Establishes a cooperative working relationship with other staff members and with students.
  6. Maintains confidentiality of student files and other professional communication.
  7. Operates and cares for equipment used in the classroom for instructional purposes.
  8. Helps students master equipment or instructional materials assigned by teacher.
  9. Distributes and collects workbooks, papers, and other materials for instruction.
  10. Records data, students’ skills and benchmark goals as needed.
Physical Requirements

The duties of this job require the following physical activities: sitting, standing, reaching, walking, lifting, bending, kneeling, stooping, climbing, pushing, pulling, finger dexterity, carrying, feeling, repetitive motions, speaking, listening and visual acuity. The employee may need to lift and/or move a student. An average weight for a student is 75 pounds. Assistance can be provided, if necessary. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. In addition, the employee must be able to follow written and oral instructions and procedures.
