Job summary

NURSING SERVICES in Odessa, Texas is seeking a part-time School Nurse to provide clinical assessment and nursing care for students, manage ill/injured cases, and collaborate with school staff and families to improve health and learning outcomes.

The role requires an RN with Texas license, CPR/AED, and school-nurse experience; BSN preferred. You’ll join a dedicated team to promote wellness and educational success in the district.

Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse with associate or baccalaureate preparation and Texas license.
  • Current CPR/AED certification in good standing.
  • Experience in school nursing or pediatrics preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide assessment and nursing care for ill and injured students.

Primary Purpose: To strengthen the educational process through improvement of the health status and learning of children
Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

  • Registered Nurse with academic preparation at the associate or baccalaureate level, BSN preferred.
  • Current Texas license issued by the Board of Nurse Examiners.
  • Current certification in CPR/AED
  • Nursing care of the school age child

Experience:

  • Preferred: two years of supervised nurse practice preferably in pediatrics and medical/surgical nursing prior to entry into school nursing.
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Provide assessment and nursing care for all ill and injured students.
  • Utilize a district knowledge base for decision making in nursing practice.
  • Use a systematic approach to problem solving in nursing practice.
  • Contribute to the education of the student with special health needs by assessing the student, planning, and providing appropriate nursing care, and evaluating the identified outcomes of care.
  • Use effective written, verbal, and nonverbal communication skills.
  • Collaborate with other school professionals, parents, and caregivers to meet the health, developmental, and educational needs of students.
  • Collaborate with members of the community in the delivery of health and social services, and utilize knowledge of community health systems and resources to function as a school community liaison.
  • Assist students, families and the school community to achieve optimal levels of wellness through appropriately designed and delivered health education.
  • Contribute to school health through innovations on practice and participation in research or research-related activities.
