Job summary

Greensboro-Day-School is seeking a Substitute Middle School Teacher in Greensboro, NC. The role is a temporary position to provide continuity of instruction for grades 5–8 when a teacher is absent, hired on a daily basis or for a limited term.

Qualifications

• Classroom experience preferred
• Understanding or experience in independent schools preferred
• Ability to differentiate instruction to meet diverse student needs
• Ability to supervise students in indoors and outdoors settings

Responsibilities

• Teach 4-5 sections of an academic subject
• Coach an academic team (if teaching 4 sections)
• Facilitate a regular study hall every other day
• Advise 12-18 students during the advisory period
• Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all students
• Manage the classroom with safety and security as the top priority
• Complete non-academic tasks as necessary (break duty, lunch duty, carpool, etc.)
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Head of School.

JOB PURPOSE:

The Substitute Middle School Teacher is a temporary position to provide continuity of instruction for students in Grades 5-8 when a teacher is absent. The Substitute Middle School Teacher is hired on a daily basis or for a limited term.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Teach 4-5 sections of an academic subject

Coach an academic team (if teaching 4 sections)

Facilitate a regular study hall every other day

Advise 12-18 students during the dedicated advisory period

Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all students

Manage the classroom with safety and security as the top priority

Complete non-academic tasks as necessary (break duty, lunch duty, carpool, etc.).

Working Conditions

Daily work requires supervising students both indoors and outdoors. Faculty are required to participate in regular safety drills, learn CPR, learn how to apply a tourniquet, provide basic first aid, administer epi-pens when needed, and be able to support other student-specific health-related needs. Some weekend, evening, or early morning work may be required from time to time.

Physical Requirements

All teachers must be able to provide adequate supervision indoors and outdoors, and they must be able to ensure the safety of students during drills and emergencies that may arise from time to time. The position may require prolonged periods of sitting at a desk, standing to teach, and working on a computer. Teachers must be able to lift up to 15 pounds. Teachers must also be able to traverse the classroom and adjust one's tone and height, by bending or leaning, in order to teach each child.
