Job summary

Arc Broward is seeking a Substitute Instructor to educate adults with disabilities in a 3–4 month certificate program. You’ll follow approved curricula, adapt lessons as needed, and supervise externships to help students apply classroom learning in real settings.

The role requires handling animals, travel to local shelters, and a focus on animal care, culinary basics, healthcare operations, hospitality, or material handling. Equal opportunity employer.

Qualifications

• Must meet FLDOE/CIE educational requirements plus one year of teaching experience.
• Experience working with adults with disabilities preferred.
• Must be comfortable handling and working with cats and dogs.

Responsibilities

• Educate students with special needs in a 3–4 month certificate program.
• Utilize lesson plans and activities provided in the curriculum.
• Supervise students at externship sites and connect theory to practice.
• Teach curriculum related to animal care, culinary arts, healthcare operations, hospitality, or material handling; occasional financial literacy and life skills.

Salary: $19 per hour – per diem (as needed, no guarantee of set hours)

About the role: Substitute Instructor

• Educate students with special needs, ages 18+, in a 3- 4 month post-secondary certificate program.
• Utilize lesson plans and activities for each class provided within the established and approved curriculum.
• Assist with relaying classroom theory and supervising students at externship sites, assisting them to apply what was learned in the classroom.
• Teaches curriculum related to animal care, entry-level culinary arts, healthcare operations, hospitality, and or material handling. On occasion, financial literacy, social skills trainings, and or daily life skills.
• Administers assessments, assigns homework, and monitors lab participation.

What are the requirements?

• High school diploma or GED required. Associate or bachelor’s degree preferred with a preference for credentials within Special Education, Vocational Education, Psychology, Social Work, or related field.
• MUST be comfortable handling and working directly with cats and dogs; willing and able to regularly travel to and assist at various local animal shelters.
• Qualified instructors will meet the minimum state (FLDOE/CIE) educational requirements plus one year of job experience related to demonstrating teaching and classroom management skills.
• Previous experience working with and or teaching adults with disabilities is preferred.
• Valid FL driver’s license and successful level II background check, physical and drug screen.
• Must be 21 years older or older.
