• Collaborate with the specialist, therapists, program administrator, and staff while maintaining confidentiality.
• Carry out instructional and behavioral programs as directed by the teacher.
• Assist in instruction of hygiene and toileting skills.
• Provide personal care of students with severe physical disabilities.
• Assist in lifting students who are physically disabled.
• Stimulate language through receptive and expressive language programs, total communication, and augmented communication.
• Carry out teacher's plans during individual and small group activities.

Position Purpose

The Instructional Assistant for Early Childhood Special Education works under the supervision of a licensed specialist to provide support and instruction to children from birth to five with special needs. This role is crucial in implementing Individualized Family Service Plans (IFSPs), promoting a safe and inclusive learning environment, and fostering the cognitive, social, emotional, and physical development of young children with disabilities.

Starting Date: On-call basis

Salary: $18.96/hour

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required
• Experience working with children, preferably those with disabilities in an early childhood setting.

Reports To: Teacher, Specialist

Major Responsibilities (Essential Functions)

• Work collaboratively with the specialist, therapists (e.g., speech, occupational, physical), program administrator, and other staff. Communicate effectively with team members and parents, while maintaining strict confidentiality regarding student and family information.
• Carries out instructional and behavioral programs as directed by teacher.
• Assists in instruction of hygiene and toileting skills.
