Job summary

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Bilingual in Yup’ik and English preferred.
• Demonstrated successful experience with students with special needs in a school setting preferred.
• Ability to carry out instructional activities with minimal supervision.
• Willingness to participate in future training programs as required.
• Ability to communicate effectively with teachers, students, and parents.
• First aid/CPR certificate preferred.
• Ability to live and work in a cross-cultural, rural Alaskan environment.
• Ability to carry out the duties described.

Responsibilities

• Works with a specific student to present and reinforce lessons planned by the teacher.
• Sets up and operates equipment required by the student.
• Assists with non-instructional classroom duties such as snack, restroom, and clothing routines.
• Assists with supervision of students during lunch, assemblies, play periods, and field trips.
• Alerts the teacher of any problem or special information about the students.
• Maintains ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students and staff.
• Exhibits responsibility and a positive attitude toward students and staff.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
