Job summary

Woodland Public Schools is seeking a Substitute Groundskeeper 1 to join the district's facilities team. The role supports grounds maintenance, minor repairs, and routine upkeep to ensure outdoor areas remain safe and ready for students and staff.

The position reports to Groundskeeper 2 and the Director of Facilities and Safety. The ideal candidate has recent groundskeeping or landscaping experience, a high school diploma or equivalent, and knowledge of safety procedures for chemicals and PPE.

Qualifications

• Recent Groundskeeping or Landscaping experience
• High School Diploma or Equivalent
• Working knowledge of Grounds practices
• Understanding of safety protocols with fertilizers and other chemicals
• Understanding of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment)
• Know SDS (Safety Data Sheets) location and usage
• Ability to work around children and be a positive role model
• Ability to communicate effectively
• Ability to follow oral or written work orders from supervisors
• Ability to perform basic math for measurements
• Regular and punctual attendance to carry out duties

Responsibilities

• Operate tractor and PTO attachments
• Perform routine landscaping maintenance and equipment checks
• Winterize landscaping equipment and prep for seasonal changes
• Distribute consumable supplies as needed
• Deice sidewalks, ramps, and parking areas as needed
• Set up outdoor areas for events as directed
• Repair irrigation systems as needed
• Trim bushes and trees as needed
• Remove graffiti when identified or found
• Attend meetings for training and safety updates
• Identify and correct safety deficiencies as they are identified
• Comply with district regulations for trash and recycling storage/disposal
• Perform other tasks as assigned by supervisor
