Job summary

Southside ISD is seeking a Substitute Groundskeeper to maintain safe and attractive district grounds in San Antonio, Texas. You will mow, edge, plant, water, fertilize and service irrigation components under the direction of the Lead Groundskeeper and Director of Maintenance & Facilities.

Experience is not required, but a high school diploma or GED and a valid Texas driver’s license are preferred. The role includes physical tasks and occasional custodial coverage as needed.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED preferred.
• Valid Texas driver’s license.
• External candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting check. Non-refundable fee (approximately $50.00) paid by employee

• Mow and detail all district grounds, including athletic fields.
• Care for trees, shrubs, and flowers by watering, pruning, fertilizing, mulching, caring for beds, and controlling weeds.
• Plant shrubs and vegetation.
• Assist with the preparation of athletic fields for games, including chalking fields.
• Water grounds and apply fertilizer.
• Collect and dispose of leaves, dirt, rubbish, and refuse from district facilities.
• Assist with the inspection, repair, and installation of sprinkler systems.
• Operate tools and equipment according to prescribed safety procedures.
• Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting, climbing, etc.
• Correct unsafe conditions in work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor immediately.
• Help keep vehicle, equipment, and tools in safe operating condition.
• Inspect and adjust tools and equipment for safety and efficiency and perform preventive maintenance as needed.
• Transport workers and equipment to work sites throughout the district.
• During inclement weather report to Director of Maintenance & Operations for assignment of other duties.
• Substitute as a building custodian as needed.
• Repair school roads and parking lots with patching material as needed.
• Install and maintain traffic control signs on district property.
• Assist with relocation of furnishings, such as desks, tables, chairs, file cabinets, etc.
• Move, install, assemble, and repair all school furniture and playground equipment as needed.
• Other duties as assigned
