Purpose Statement: The job of Substitute Food Service Worker is to provide support to the food service activities at the assigned location with specific responsibilities for preparing and serving food items to students and/or school personnel, and maintaining food service facilities in a safe and sanitary condition.
Reports to: Cafeteria Manager
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
Skills: Adheres to safety practices; operates equipment found in a commercial kitchen; administers first aid. Two (2) years of experience in large‑quantity food preparation required.
Knowledge: Basic math; reading and following instructions; understanding multi‑step written and oral instructions. Also includes safety practices and procedures; quantifying food preparation and handling; sanitation practices; health standards and hazards; job‑related codes, laws, rules, regulations, policies; methods of quantity cooking.
Abilities: Schedules activities; collates data; operates job‑related equipment; works with others and diversity of individuals; problem‑solves using prescribed guidelines; meets deadlines and schedules; standardizes recipes and follows instructions.
Responsibilities: Working under direct supervision using standardized procedures; providing information and/or advising others; operating within a defined budget.
Requires significant lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some climbing and balancing, frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling, and significant fine finger dexterity. Job requires 0% sitting, 25% walking, and 75% standing. Performed under temperature extremes and exposure to risk of injury and/or illness.
Job‑related experience is preferred. Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
