Job summary

Blue Springs School District is seeking a Substitute Food Service worker for the 2026-2027 school year. The role supports food service activities at assigned locations, prepares and serves meals, and maintains sanitary facilities.

The position is temporary, part-time (3 hours per day), with a pay rate of $15.00 per hour. Requires a high school diploma or GED; previous large-scale cooking/food serving experience is helpful.

Position Summary:

The job of Substitute Food Service is done for the purpose/s of providing support to the educational process with specific responsibilities for providing support to the food service activities at assigned location; preparing and serving food items to students and/or school personnel; and maintaining food service facilities in a safe and sanitary condition.

• This job reports to the Kitchen Manager and Sub Coordinator
• This job is 3 hours/day at various locations.
• This is a temporary part-time position on an as needed basis.

• The substitute pay rate for this position is: $15.00/hr.

Essential Functions: (Other Duties may be assigned)

• Assists with quantity food preparation.
• Assists with the daily cleaning of all kitchen equipment to ensure cleanliness and sanitary conditions are met.
• Sets up and breaks down serving lines (salad bar, hot food, a la carte etc.).
• Operates cash register.
• Counts money, makes change, complete related reports.
• Assists in cleaning lunch tables.
• Assists with dismissal of students from lunchroom.

Education and/or Experience:

High School diploma or general education degree (GED), previous experience with large scale cooking and food preparation/serving helpful.

Work Environment:

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: significant lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some climbing and balancing, frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 0% sitting, 50% walking, and 50% standing. The job is performed under temperature extremes and under conditions with some exposure to risk of injury and/or illness.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
