Substitute Paraprofessional / Teacher Aide (2026-2027)

Blue Springs School District – Blue Springs, Missouri

Position Summary

Implements provided lesson plans for the absent employee in addition to other assigned job duties. Reports to the Building Principal and fulfills an "as needed" role.

Compensation

$110 per day; after 10 consecutive days on the same job, pay retroactively increased to $120 per day.

Essential Functions
  • Aids immediate administration of first aid and medical assistance instructed by a health care professional (e.g., diapering, tube feeding, colostomy bags, medication).
  • Assists with implementing students’ daily schedule and behavior plan (e.g., class schedule, medication, appetite, transfer arrangements).
  • Attends to and guides classroom activities, assignments, and/or materials under the direction of the supervising teacher.
  • Communicates with various personnel for assistance in data collection, evaluating progress, and implementing educational objectives.
  • Maintains instructional materials and performs clerical duties (e.g., supplies, copying, set‑up classroom before/after, hand‑out/collect papers).
  • Monitors students with lesson assignments, accommodations, or modifications to practice and reinforce learning concepts.
  • Participates in training, meetings, and in‑service presentations related to classroom management, first aid, CPR, emergency procedures.
  • Reports incidents involving students to appropriate personnel and ensures student safety.
  • Responds to emergency situations and directs to appropriate personnel.
  • Supports classroom teachers and other school personnel in implementation of curriculum and teaching methodologies.
  • Watches over students during assigned periods in various school environments (e.g., rest rooms, playgrounds, hallways, cafeteria).

  • Supervise students.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure efficient functioning of the work unit.
Qualification Requirements
  • Language Skills: Read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or government regulations; write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals; present information and respond to questions.
  • Mathematical Skills: Calculate figures such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, volume; apply basic algebra and geometry.
  • Reasoning Ability: Solve practical problems with limited standardization; interpret written, oral, diagram, or schedule instructions.
  • Other Skills and Abilities: Apply knowledge of current research; establish and maintain effective relationships with students, staff, and the community; communicate clearly in oral and written form; perform duties in line with district requirements and Board policies.
  • Physical Demands: Stand, talk, hear regularly; sit, walk, reach with hands and arms occasionally; occasionally push or move up to 50 pounds; close vision and focus; interact with the public and staff.
  • Work Environment: Moderate noise level; work indoors or outdoors.
  • Background Check: Successful completion of pre‑employment background check including criminal, reference, work history, and credential verification.
  • Experience: Job‑related experience desired.
  • Education: Associate degree or bachelor’s degree (preferred) or minimum 36 college credit hours.
  • Certificates: Current Missouri Teaching Certificate or current Missouri Substitute Teacher Certificate required.
  • Equivalency: 20‑Hour Substitute Teacher Certification Training.
