Job summary

Yellow Brick Road is seeking a Substitute Educator in Iowa to step in for Lead or Assistant Educators and maintain a safe, nurturing classroom environment. You will follow lesson plans, supervise children, and support daily routines while communicating with families through the app and staff.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED, ability to pass a background check, CPR & First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain within 90 days), and a commitment to flexibility with at least 5

Qualifications

• Must have a high school diploma or GED.
• Ability to pass a background check.
• Flexibility to accept sub shifts and schedule changes; at least 5 shifts per month.
• CPR & First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain within 90 days).
• Previous teaching or childcare experience preferred.
• Physical ability to lift/carry up to 50 lbs and supervise children indoors and outdoors.
• Calm, professional demeanor and ability to work under stress.
• Strong communication skills and commitment to teamwork.

Responsibilities

• Fill in for Lead or Assistant Educators as needed, following lesson plans and classroom routines.
• Supervise and engage children at all times, maintaining state ratios.
• Support children’s daily routines (meals, rest, diapering/toileting, activities).
• Use parent communication app to document daily needs, observations, and updates for parents.
• Foster a respectful, safe, and nurturing environment and model positive behaviors.
• Partner with staff to maintain classroom cleanliness, organization, and safety standards.
• Report accidents or suspected abuse immediately as required by law.
• Greet families at drop-off and pick-up, supporting communication with Lead Educator or Director.
