Job summary

Yellow Brick Road Early Childhood Development Center in Iowa is seeking an Assistant Educator to support the Lead Educator in creating a nurturing, inclusive learning environment. You will contribute to social and emotional development, curiosity, and daily routines while upholding core values and maintaining a safe space for every student.

You’ll assist with play-based lesson plans, supervise students, and communicate with families.

Qualifications

• Must meet the Department of Human Services (DHS) Assistant Teacher qualification requirements.
• Knowledge of early childhood development principles and best practices.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Lead Educator in implementing play-based, age-appropriate lesson plans and activities.
• Help maintain a positive classroom culture with belonging, safety, and curiosity.
• Supervise and engage with students to ensure safety and participation.
• Monitor developmental progress and support documentation as directed.
• Perform daily cleaning and sanitizing to maintain a safe environment.
• Guide students in conflict resolution with developmentally appropriate techniques.
• Support adherence to classroom schedules and routines.
• Communicate professionally with families at drop-off/pick-up and as needed.
• Provide daily updates via the Parent Communication app on progress and activities.
• Collaborate with colleagues to share ideas and best practices.
