Job summary

Central Aroostook Association seeks Substitute Education Technicians to join OTC, our private school pool. You will support teachers in classroom and community settings, assisting students with developmental disabilities to participate in daily routines.

Responsibilities include one-on-one tutoring, behavior support, safety and hygiene assistance, and documentation of progress. Training in Safety Care and CPR/First Aid is required; fingerprinting may be needed.

Qualifications

  • At least one year of experience working with students with developmental disabilities.
  • Ability to manage emotional or physical emergencies that can arise.
  • Ability to safely accompany individuals into the community.
  • Ability and willingness to assist individuals with all aspects of toileting and hygiene skills.
  • Ability to pass all required training, as specified by the program.

Responsibilities

  • Provides academic support to students by explanation, alternative teaching methods, and one-on-one tutoring to meet IEP goals.
  • Attends to personal needs and safety of students at all times to ensure access to routines and curriculum.
  • Supports students in joining classroom activities and adapts tasks under teacher supervision.
  • Supports students with difficult behaviors using behavior plans, data tracking, and de-escalation.
  • Protects health, safety and wellbeing, including de-escalation techniques and physical management when needed.
  • Assists students with adaptive equipment and transfers using wheelchairs, lifts per protocol.
  • Keeps daily notes and shares with teacher, files incident reports, assists in progress reports.
  • Assists in cleaning the classroom to maintain a safe environment.
