Job summary

ServingSchools is seeking an Education Technician in Presque Isle, ME. The role supports teachers by implementing programs for students with developmental disabilities in ADL, sensory, physical fitness, academic, and social activities within classroom and community settings.

Responsibilities include aiding with personal hygiene, transporting students in an Agency vehicle, and participating in all required safety trainings.

Qualifications

  • Experience with students who have developmental disabilities is preferred.
  • Ability to manage emotional or physical emergencies.
  • Ability to work on a team and follow supervisor directions.
  • Ability to accompany individuals into the community safely.
  • Must be able to assist with toileting and personal hygiene.

Responsibilities

  • Assist teachers with instructional tasks in ADL, sensory, physical fitness, social development, academics, and independence.
  • Transport students to and from community activities in an Agency vehicle.
  • Support students in the classroom and community settings as program requirements dictate.
  • Participate in training and implement safety procedures as required.
  • Adapt to program locations and changing duties as assigned.

Job description

The Education Technician is a direct care position that performs instructional tasks in OTC and OTC Next Steps in Presque Isle, a special purpose private school in the classroom and community settings.

Responsibilities include assisting teachers using programs that are designed to train students with developmental disabilities in Activities for Daily Living (ADL), sensory, physical fitness, social development, academics, and independence, assisting students in-the-area of personal hygiene, and transporting students to and from community in an Agency vehicle. Specific duties of this position will vary depending on the program location.

Experience and Skill Requirements:
  • At least one year of experience working with students with developmental disabilities who have varying abilities and behaviors is preferred.
  • Ability and willingness to manage emotional or physical emergencies that can arise.
  • Ability to work on a team, sharing responsibilities with co-workers, accepting direction from supervisors, and contributing ideas.
  • Ability to safely accompany individuals into the community.
  • Ability and willingness to assist individuals with all aspects of toileting and hygiene skills.
  • Ability to pass all required training, as specified by the program.
Education Requirements:
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED);
  • Passing criminal background check, CPS check, APS check
  • Valid Drivers License
  • Safety Care - provided upon hire
  • CPR/First Aid - provided upon hire
Compensation And Benefits
  • Starting pay of $19.36/hour, with higher rates based on education and experience.
  • Full-time, benefit-eligible position.
  • School-year schedule with weekends, evenings, and holidays off. Monday-Friday 8:00-2:00.
