POSITION: Temporary Custodian

Number of Work Days: As Assigned by the Director of Building Facilities

SALARY: As Set by the Board of School Trustees

QUALIFICATIONS: High School Diploma or GED

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Head Custodian & Director of Building Facilities

EVALUATED BY: Director of Building Facilities

Summary

To perform custodial tasks as assigned by the Facilities Director.

Essential Responsibilities Other Duties May Be Assigned

The following are general tasks which may be expected of a temporary custodian. The Facilities Director will assign specific cleaning areas and cleaning tasks.

Daily Cleaning

  • Dust mops floors
  • Wet mops floors (as needed or when requested)).
  • Machine cleans floors (as needed or when requested).
  • Dusts / cleans under bleachers (as needed or when requested).
  • Cleans walls (as needed or when requested).
  • Cleans furniture (as needed or when requested).
  • Cleans white boards or Smart Boards (as needed or when requested).
  • Cleans windows (as needed or when requested).
  • Vacuums floors.

Restroom Cleaning

  • Empties trash.
  • Sweeps floors / wet mop floors with disinfectant.
  • Cleans and disinfects sinks, toilets, urinals and showers.
  • Cleans drinking fountains.
  • Cleans mirrors (as needed or when requested).
  • Cleans and disinfects walls and stalls (as needed or when requested).
  • Cleans lockers (as needed or when requested).
  • Keeps hand towels, hand soap, and toilet paper containers filled.

General Maintenance

  • Changes ballasts.
  • Does "light" plumbing (fix water leaks, etc.).
  • Changes light bulbs (as needed).
  • Sweeps areas in front of gym lobbies and outdoor walks.
  • Removes trash from both parking lots.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITES: None.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. LANGUAGE SKILLS: The ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. The ability to write routine reports and correspondence. The ability to speak effectively before groups of employees.

REASONING ABILITY: The ability to add, subtract, and multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. The ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw an interpret bar graphs.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: The ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and the community. The ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools or controls, squat, stoop or kneel, reach above the head or forward, and climb on ladders. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. including cleaning supplies and unloading trucks. Occasionally, the employee will life and/or move up to 90 lbs. including salt and bulk furniture. The employee must also be able to push/pull bleachers, tables, and scrubbing machines.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential duties.

While performing duties of this job, the employee will regularly work indoors and outdoors. The employee will work near or with mechanical equipment. The employee may occasionally work with toxic or caustic chemicals such as petroleum products, degreasers, and sprays. The employee must be able to meet deadlines with time constraints.
