Job summary

Manteno CUSD No. 5 is seeking reliable Substitute Bus Drivers to transport students safely and maintain a positive environment on the bus.

The role supports student well-being, follows transportation procedures, and contributes to a safe school experience. Requirements include a high school diploma or equivalent, a valid CDL with endorsements (or willingness to obtain with training), clean driving record, and the ability to pass background checks and a physical.

Qualifications

• CDL with endorsements required or willingness/ability to obtain with training provided.
• Clean driving record and ability to pass background check and drug screenings.
• Ability to pass a physical.
• Knowledge of traffic laws and school transportation safety regulations.
• Ability to follow established routes and schedules.

Responsibilities

• Safely transport students to and from school, activities, and events.
• Follow assigned bus routes and schedules in a timely manner.
• Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections.
• Maintain order and ensure appropriate student behavior on the bus.
• Assist students with boarding, seating, and exiting the bus as needed.
• Supervise students during transport and ensure appropriate behavior.
• Communicate effectively with school staff, families, and transportation personnel.
• Report accidents, incidents, or mechanical issues promptly.
• Maintain cleanliness and basic upkeep of the bus.
• Follow all transportation safety procedures and regulations.

Qualifications/Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements (or willingness/ability to obtain with training provided)
• Clean driving record and ability to pass background check and drug screenings

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Salary & Benefits
