Job description

Position Summary

Bus Drivers are qualified to drive a regular school bus, including those with special features and equipment, to assist students with mobility and other access problems on designated routes. They also transport students on special trips and athletic events.

Work Year & Employee Type

Continuous — Full Time and Part Time

Salary

$23.97 per hour (Step 1 of CSEA board‑approved schedule)

Location & Schedule

Transportation. This will have a split shift. Substitute drivers are on‑call employees serving day‑to‑day; absences are unpredictable, so assignment offers are not guaranteed.

Experience & Education

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• 20 hours of classroom instruction on skills, regulations, and safety requirements for driving a school bus.
• 20 hours of behind‑the‑wheel instruction on a school bus.

Licenses, Certifications, Bonding and/or Testing Required

• Valid Commercial Class A or B Driver’s License.
• Medical examination card.
• Valid California Special Driver Certificate with PS Endorsement.
• Valid CPR and ARC First Aid Certificates.

Condition of Employment

• Insurability by the District’s liability insurance carrier (Lift Test).
• Passage of pre‑employment drug testing (DOT) and random drug test(s).

Required Documents

• Certification (DMV DL 45 – Special certificate to drive a school bus in CA).
• Copy of Transcript (T‑01 – Copy of State Department of Education Training Certificate).
• CPR/First Aid Certification (First Aid card required if restriction 6 appears on the DL 45).
• DMV Driving Record Printout (not older than 30 days).
• Driver’s License Copy (Commercial Driver’s License with P and S endorsement).
• Health (MCSA 5876 – Medical Certificate).
• Proof of automobile insurance.
• Proof of HS graduation (HS Diploma, HS Transcripts, or equivalent such as GED).
• Resume (current resume showing related experience).
