Job summary

Newport-Mesa Unified School District seeks substitute bus drivers to transport students on designated routes. Positions are temporary/as-needed, with varying days and hours, typically working split shifts Monday–Friday, and requiring availability from early morning to early evening.

Under the Director of Transportation, drivers operate and maintain buses, conduct safety checks, and complete related records and reports. Qualified applicants hold appropriate California licenses and certifications.

Qualifications

• Graduation from high school or equivalent.
• Six months of experience as a school bus driver preferred.
• Valid Class A or B California DMV license with passenger transportation endorsement, S, and air brake endorsement.
• Current DMV printout (less than 30 days old) submitted with the application.
• California Special Driver Certificate valid for school buses.
• Current CHP-approved First Aid Certificate (if required by Special Driver Certificate).
• Current DL-51 Medical Card.
• Must be insurable by the District's liability insurance carrier.

Job Summary

THE VACANCY: This recruitment will be used to fill substitute (temporary/as-needed basis) positions only. This recruitment is open, meaning that all are welcome to apply. Substitute positions may have varying days and hours depending on the need. These positions work split shifts, Monday-Friday, and require availability from 5:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Basic Function

Under the direction of the Director of Transportation, operate and maintain school buses to transport students safely and efficiently to an assigned location using a designated route; perform regular safety inspections; prepare a variety of records and reports related to assigned activities.

Minimum Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school and sufficient training and experience to demonstrate the knowledge and abilities listed above. Six (6) months of experience as a school bus driver is preferred.

Licenses And Other Requirements

• Valid Class A or B California Motor Vehicle Operator's License with passenger transportation endorsement, "S", and air brake endorsement
• Must have a current DMV printout to be submitted with the job application must be less than 30 days old
• California Special Driver Certificate valid for school buses
• Current California Highway Patrol approved First Aid Certificate (if required on Special Driver Certificate)
• Current Valid DL-51 Medical Card
• Must be able to be insured and continue to be insurable by the District's liability insurance carrier.
