Job summary

Plain Local School District Transportation Department in Canton, Ohio is seeking a Substitute Bus Aide to support bus drivers and school staff. You will aid students with disabilities on and off the bus, using wheelchair lifts and other adaptations as needed, and ensure safety throughout transport.

The role requires assisting with lifting and managing preschool and special needs children, and ensuring students are handed to staff or caregivers at drop-off, while following district policies.

Responsibilities

• Assist bus driver and staff in line with student IEP.

• Ensure students are safely handed to school staff or caregivers at drop-off.
• Handle wheelchair tie-down straps and safety equipment properly.
• Maintain friendly, calm interactions with students; manage occasional unruly behavior.

Position Type: Substitute

Salary: $12 Per Hour

• Work with Bus Driver(s), Transportation Supervisor, and Transportation Clerk to aid a student in line with a student’s I.E.P.
• Assist students with physical disabilities on and off the bus using the wheelchair lift or other adaptations as instructed - Battery or hydraulic powered
• Monitor students with disabilities while they ride the bus to ensure theirsafety and assist them with any physical needs
• Have physical capability of safely and appropriately lifting and managing preschool and special needs children when necessary
• Make sure that students with disabilities are safely left with a school staffmember or their parent/caregiver before departing
• Properly handle wheelchair tie-down straps and other safety equipment asneeded
• Deal with students in a friendly manner, even the occasional unruly student
• Deal with occasional exposure to blood and bodily fluids
• Assist the Bus Driver with other duties as requested by the Bus Driver, Transportation Supervisor, or Transportation Clerk
• Comply with all Plain Local Board of Education policies and procedures
• Perform other duties as directed
