GAI Consultants, Inc. in Pittsburgh, PA is seeking a Technical Specialist (Electrical Engineer) to join the Power Delivery Substation Department. The role emphasizes substation design and collaboration with clients and field teams from our office in Pittsburgh.

The successful candidate will have an Electrical Engineering background, internship or co-op experience, and strong communication skills to coordinate with internal teams and external stakeholders.

Responsibilities

Perform detailed design of low to high voltage substations and switchyards.
Develop and revise drawings for one line, electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, grounding and materials lists.
Coordinate with CAD operators to produce organized CAD drawings.
Develop control and relay panel layouts and system specifications.
Travel to client/vendor sites for reviews and field verification.
Assist with scope development and cost estimates for substation projects.

Job description

GAI Consultants is currently seeking a Technical Specialist (Electrical Engineer) to work in the Power Delivery Substation Department in our Pittsburgh, PA office. It would be beneficial for the successful candidate to have familiarity with substation design and relevant engineering internship or co-op work experience.

Responsibilities

Perform detailed design of low to extra-high-voltage substations and switchyards
Develop and/or revise existing drawings for one line, physical arrangement, electrical schematics, electrical wiring diagrams, grounding, conduit and wire schedules, bill of materials, site development, battery sizing, and equipment layout, including coordinating with CAD operators to develop organized, quality CAD drawings
Integrate physical layout and design of substations to interface with protection and control drawings or vice versa
Develop control and relay panel layouts including assembling the specifications
Create project criteria
Develop design specifications including the overall bill of materials
Design and size auxiliary systems including AC/DC load centers as well as batteries and chargers
Design and size conduit, cable, and backup generators
Travel to client and vendor offices for design reviews
Travel to site locations for construction coordination and field verification of designs
Assist with the technical development of the scope of services and cost estimates for substation and P&C projects

Required Skills And Experience

Bachelor's (B.S.) degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited program with a strong academic background and coursework in electrical power concepts/AC power systems analysis
Strong communication skills, including written and oral communication skills, in order to work effectively with internal team members and external client personnel
Detail-oriented and able to demonstrate professionalism at all times, with a “Client First” approach to all interactions
Ability to work on multiple assignments simultaneously and possess strong time management skills.
Proficient with MS Office applications

Receives close supervision on all aspects of assignments. Attains mentored experience from a licensed engineer.

Possesses basic oral and written communication skills. Identifies and acknowledges principles of teamwork and leadership. Interacts primarily with internal project team members.
