GAI Consultants, Inc. seeks an electrical engineering intern to join the Power Delivery team in Pittsburgh. This entry-level, full-time internship offers 40 hours/week for 3 months, with possible extension.

The candidate should be enrolled in an electrical engineering program and be eligible to work in the Pittsburgh, PA office. You will assist engineers and project managers with day-to-day tasks, prepare drawings and specifications, and gain hands-on experience in Substation design using

Qualifications

  • Enrolled in electrical engineering program at junior or senior level.
  • Must have good skills in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Experience with drafting programs, AutoCAD and Revitis preferred.
  • Willingness to learn new programs and Power Delivery skills.

Responsibilities

  • Assist engineers and project managers with day-to-day project tasks as required for successful project delivery.
  • Prepare Specification Packages.
  • Prepare Physical and Wiring Drawings.
  • Design and analysis of Substation Drawings using AutoCAD.
  • Perform Electrical clearance checks and calculations.
  • Coordinate and develop client proposals and estimates.
  • Apply engineering principles to assist in the design of Power Delivery Projects.
  • Demonstrate attention to detail and strong communication skills.
  • Perform complex tasks following established processes.
  • Work under lead engineers and project managers to complete day-to-day tasks.
  • Possible travel to local project sites (5%).

Job description

GAI is seeking an electrical engineering student intern to join our Power Delivery team, to gain relevant skills and experience in Power Delivery Engineering. Required skills include critical thinking, problem-solving, organization, team focus, and eagerness to apply learned engineering principles to solve real-life problems. This is a temporary full-time position at 40 hours a week and a 3-month duration. Additional schedules will be considered. The successful candidate must be eligible to work out of the Pittsburgh, PA office.

Intern Duties:
  • Assist engineers and project managers with day-to-day project tasks as required for successful project delivery. Tasks may include:
  • Preparation of Specification Packages.
  • Preparation of Physical and Wiring Drawings.
  • Design and Analysis of Substation Drawings using AutoCAD.
  • Performance of Electrical Clearance checks and calculations.
  • Coordination and development of client proposals and estimates.
  • Apply engineering principles to assist in the design of Power Delivery Projects.
  • Must demonstrate attention to detail
  • Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Perform complex tasks typically following established processes.
  • Direction Received: Works under lead engineers and project managers to complete day-to-day tasks.
  • Possible travel to local project sites (5%).
Experience
  • This is an entry-level position with no experience required.
  • The successful candidate should be enrolled in an electrical engineering program at a Junior or Senior level.
Education And Training
  • Enrolled in a program to receive a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in engineering, preferably electrical engineering, is required.
  • Must have good skills in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Experience with drafting programs, particularly AutoCAD and Revitispreferred.
  • Willingness to learn new programs and skills in Power Delivery.
Communication Skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical reports and procedures, and governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports and other business correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from other staff members.
Mathematical Skills
  • Required mathematical skills are commensurate with the technical or engineering discipline practiced (e.g., engineering calculations, design, etc.)
Computer Skills
  • Demonstrate in-depth understanding of basic computer systems and software packages. Must be willing to learn software that is specific to Power Delivery Industry..
