Job summary

HDR is seeking an experienced Structural Engineer to join our Power group in Kansas City. You will lead the structural design and provide technical direction for high‑voltage substations up to 500 kV, coordinating with designers and engineers across locations.

You will apply your expertise in steel design, foundation design, and code compliance, with a focus on reliability and safety. This role requires a PE license, strong communication, and collaboration in a dynamic, employee‑owned culture.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
• Professional engineering license recognized by the local licensing board (PE).
• Experience as a structural engineer on utility/substation projects.

Responsibilities

• Independently coordinate the structural design team through design development and contract document phases.
• Coordinate workload through design development and construction document phases to complete documents on schedule.
• Lead structural engineering tasks for substation structures, including rolled steel shapes, lattice framing, and folded plate tubular shapes.
