Job summary

PacifiCorp is recruiting a Relay Technician Trainee to train through hands-on tasks, coursework, and mentorship. You will support installation, maintenance, testing, and operation of substation protection, control, and metering systems.

Gain experience with SCADA, remote monitoring, and a variety of relays while adhering to safety standards and company policies. The role offers a clear path to journeyman status and requires strong record-keeping and teamwork.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED or equivalent.
• Certification in electrical apprenticeship program or equivalent.
• Ability to manage workload and use computerized test programs.
• Basic MS Office skills (Word/Excel/Access/Internet).
• Valid driving record and ability to obtain CDL.
• Commitment to safety policies and procedures.
• Must have passed relay seminar exam.

Responsibilities

• Attend technician training schools to learn relay standards and theory; complete electronic courses.
• Assist and complete work under the direction of Relay Technicians and Area Relay Technician as outlined on the Relay Technicians' job description.
• Keep and assist relay technicians in keeping records and files of work performed, outages reports, and equipment records.
• Under supervision, participate in diagnostic and analytical testing of substation equipment, including power factor testing and insulation resistance testing; gain experience operating substation equipment and switching.
• Adhere to safety protocols; work independently or in a team; may perform in confined spaces or at heights.
