Job summary

Wabash Valley Power is seeking a skilled technician to perform maintenance, installation, testing, and calibration on protective relay devices and related equipment across transmission and substation facilities. The role emphasizes reliability, safety, and collaboration with engineers and operators.

The position may be based in Indianapolis, Thorntown, or Lafayette, IN, and requires knowledge of AC/DC systems, interpreting diagrams, and hands-on experience with relay test kits and instruments.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of operation and theory of protective relaying systems and their relation to the transmission system.
  • Knowledge of AC and DC electrical systems.
  • Ability to read technical docs, substation diagrams, and wiring schematics.
  • Ability to use relay test kits, multimeters, phase angle meters, and PCs to diagnose faults.
  • Safety procedures, LOTO, and ability to work independently with strong teamwork.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect, test, and maintain protective relays and control systems for reliability.
  • Install new protective relays and control devices per specs and standards.
  • Perform routine testing and calibrate relays for accurate fault detection.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot relay malfunctions to minimize downtime.
  • Maintain detailed maintenance records and ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Follow safety protocols and participate in emergency response when needed.
  • Collaborate with engineers, technicians, and operators to optimize performance.
  • Coordinate and monitor contractor activities as required.
