Job summary

CenterPoint Energy seeks an Associate Electrical Engineer specializing in substation protection and SCADA. You will define protective relaying schemes, program relays and RTUs, and design automation for reliable electric distribution substations.

You’ll collaborate with vendors and field staff to commission equipment and ensure system integrity. Requires a Bachelor’s degree in engineering; associate experience in utility projects is preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited college or university.
• Associate Engineer experience in electric utility or power engineering preferred.
• Willingness to participate in CenterPoint Energy’s Emergency Operation Plan (EOP) and field activities.

Responsibilities

• Develop substation protection schemes and relay settings.
• Program relay set points for electromechanical and microprocessor relays.
• Design substation automation and SCADA schemes; program relays/PLCs/RTUs for visibility and control.
• Collaborate with power producers, industrial customers, and contractors for interconnection.
• Support field personnel in commissioning new facilities and troubleshooting existing substations.
• Analyze fault events and generate sequence of events reports from fault records.
• Apply NERC/ERCOT/CIP standards to protection and SCADA schemes.
• Design digital substations using IEC 61850 concepts with multiple vendors.
