Job summary

CenterPoint Energy, Inc. in Houston, TX seeks an Associate Electrical Engineer to specify, design, and modify power system protection and SCADA schemes for substations. You will develop protective relay settings and assist in commissioning to maintain system reliability.

This role requires a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and may prefer internship experience in electric utilities. You will collaborate with vendors, field crews, and engineers to implement NERC/ERCOT standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
• Preferred internship or co-op in electric utility or power engineering.
• Experience with protective relays and SCADA is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Develop substation protection schemes and specify relays.
• Program relay setpoints for electromechanical and microprocessor relays.
• Design substation automation and SCADA systems.
• Coordinate with vendors, engineers, and field personnel for commissioning.
• Assist in field testing and troubleshooting of substations.
• Analyze fault events and prepare sequence-of-events reports.
• Ensure compliance with NERC and ERCOT CIP standards.
• Design digital substations using IEC 61850 protocols.
