Base pay range

$65,600.00/yr - $83,100.00/yr

About The Position

Pond is seeking an experienced Substation Physical Engineer to support the design and development of (12kV–500kV) transmission and distribution substations. This role offers an opportunity to join our growing Energy team in one of the following Pond offices: Atlanta, GA; Peachtree Corners, GA; Tampa, FL; The Woodlands, TX; Denver, CO. The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of relevant experience and a passion for growth and collaboration. You will support the Power Services program, delivering projects for clients across the U.S., providing opportunities to expand your knowledge in transmission and distribution substation design. We seek a self-starter who can work independently and collaborate closely with protection & control, civil, and structural teams to deliver high-quality solutions.

Job Responsibilities

1. Develop substation physical layouts, including general arrangements (GA), equipment layouts, conduit, grounding, and raceway designs.
2. Prepare design calculations such as bus calculations, cable sizing & schedules, grounding analysis, and lightning protection.
3. Coordinate with civil, site, and structural engineers to integrate their designs into substation drawings.
4. Specify and select high-voltage equipment like transformers, circuit breakers, disconnect switches, buswork, CTs/PTs, and surge arresters.
5. Proficient in AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, MicroStation, ETAP, CYME, and SKM, with expertise in substation design and power system analysis.
6. Ensure compliance with standards such as NERC, IEEE, NEC, NESC, and client-specific standards.
7. Knowledge of Air-Insulated (AIS) and Gas-Insulated (GIS) substations.
8. Provide guidance and mentorship to team members.
9. Support development of bid packages, BOMs, and technical specifications.
10. Collaborate with internal teams, utilities, clients, and field engineers.
11. Review vendor drawings for proper equipment integration into substation designs.

Qualifications

1. Bachelor of Science (BS) in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
2. Professional Engineering License (PE) or on the path to obtain PE.
3. 5+ years of experience in substation design.
4. Familiarity with relevant industry codes, standards, and design software.
