Job description

Lead Substation Physical Engineer – Electrical Engineering (King Of Prussia, PA)
About the Role
ExecuPOWER is looking for a LeadSubstation Physical Engineer to join our growing Substation Team in a remote capacity. This role offers the opportunity to work on high-voltage transmission (15kV to 500kV) projects, contributing to the design, analysis, and execution of complex substation systems. The selected candidate will work closely with project management, distribution, and transmission teams, while also having the opportunity to collaborate with and mentor junior engineers.
What You'll Be Doing
  • Assist in the design and development of physical substation systems, ensuring compliance with industry standards.
  • Conduct grounding studies, lightning protection analysis, and AC/DC calculations for station service and battery system sizing.
  • Perform fault stress analysis and develop essential technical documentation, including general arrangement drawings, grounding plans, and conduit/cable routing plans.
  • Develop equipment specifications for key substation components such as transformers, breakers, and switches.
  • Collaborate with Project Management, Procurement, and Construction teams to ensure project success.
  • Review and update one-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, and elevation drawings for NERC, IEEE, and other compliance requirements.
  • Provide technical support during project implementation, including construction documentation and bill of materials preparation.
  • Stay up to date with industry trends and new technologies to enhance substation design processes.
What You Need to Bring to the Table
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) from an accredited program.
  • 10+ years of experience in Physical Substation Engineering, with a focus on high-voltage transmission system design.
  • Familiarity with grounding studies, direct-stroke shielding, AC/DC calculations, and fault stress analysis.
  • Experience with substation design software such as AutoCAD, CDEGS, WinIGS, and a strong understanding of NERC and IEEE standards.
  • Ability to work remotely while effectively collaborating with teams across multiple locations.
  • Occasional travel to ExecuPOWER's King of Prussia office and client sites may be required.
