Job summary

Duke Energy offers a Substation or Line Technician Summer Intern position across our North Carolina/South Carolina footprint. You will assist a higher-level technician in transmission line and substation construction and maintenance while learning how our power grid operates.

Ideal candidates are enrolled in Engineering Technology or related field, graduate after August 2027, and hold a valid driver's license.

Qualifications

Currently enrolled and pursuing a two degree in Engineering Technology or related field
Graduation date must be after August 2027
Must have a valid State Driver's License and the ability to obtain a CDL Class A Driver's License

Responsibilities

Clearly understand the importance of company safe work practices and safety rules
Basic understanding of the Human Performance Tools and requirements
Basic understanding of the isolation of substation and line equipment and grounding practices
Demonstrates good verbal and written communications skills
Basic understanding of electrical drawings (substation equipment schematics and power system drawings)
Basic understanding of NERC compliance and the importance for accurate data and timely completion of assigned work
Basic electrical and mechanical troubleshooting skills
Develops the ability to think methodically and arrange activities in logical order
Basic understanding of pneumatics and hydraulics systems
Exposure to Transmission and Distribution system switching activities
Develop a basic understanding of AC and DC basic principles
Demonstrate the basic ability to operate bucket, digger derrick truck and other areal devices
Develop a basic understanding of Power Grid Operations construction and maintenance standards
