Job summary

RWE Americas, LLC is seeking a Substation Maintenance Specialist I to assist with maintenance and inspection of substation and transmission components across wind farm sites. The role involves safe execution of routine tasks, high-voltage switching under guidance, and documenting results in compliance with NERC standards.

The ideal candidate has 3+ years in power generation/maintenance, understands substation equipment, and is willing to travel up to 30% of time to North American sites.

Qualifications

• High School degree or equivalent required.
• 2- or 4-year degree (preferred) from an accredited school, in engineering, physics, power, or related field.
• Journeyman or Master Electrician license may substitute for 2 years of experience.
• Minimum 3 years’ work experience in operations/maintenance in power generation, transmission or distribution.
• Knowledge of substation equipment (transformers, breakers, capacitors).
• Uses basic testing tools (IR cameras, battery testers) for inspections.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine inspections, maintenance, and minor repairs on substation and collection system equipment.
• Execute high-voltage switching and grounding under guidance and follow safety protocols (NFPA 70E, lock-out/tag-out).
• Capture readings with standard test equipment and document results.
• Maintain compliance documentation including NERC records.
• Travel up to 30% to travel to North American sites as needed.
