Job summary

Electric Power Systems is seeking an experienced Fiber Splicing Technician to terminate, splice, document and test fiber optic lines within the customer’s network. Five years of experience and EXFO equipment familiarity are preferred; travel to sites across North America is required.

Candidates should read blueprints, perform OTDR tests and meters-based testing, and install fiber equipment and panels. An Associates or Technical Degree is preferred; CWDM/DWDM knowledge is a plus.

Qualifications

• Five years of fiber splicing experience.
• Experience with EXFO fiber equipment preferred.
• Willingness to travel to customer sites.
• Ability to read and understand blueprints and work scopes.
• Strong safety awareness and workmanship.

Responsibilities

• Terminate, splice, bonds/grounds and test fiber optic equipment to standards.
• Perform fiber tests with OTDRs, light source and meters.

Pay: The hourly rate for this position is between $35-$55 per hour. Factors which may affect starting pay within this range may include geography/market, skills, education, experience, and other qualifications of the successful candidate.

Job Purpose: Immediate full-time position for experienced Fiber Splicing Technician. Candidate will be responsible for the terminating, splicing, documenting and testing of all fiber optic lines within the customer’s network. Five years’ experience and experience with EXFO fiber equipment preferred. Must be willing to travel. Current fiber optic certifications preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform fiber tests with OTDR’s, light source and meters


• Terminate, splice, bonds/grounds and tests fiber optic equipment to standards


• Perform installation of fiber optic equipment and patch and panels.


• Working knowledge of fiber optics


• Basic knowledge of networking


• Proficient in the operation of all related fiber tools and equipment


• Terminate, splice and install a variety of fiber optic connectors and enclosures


• Ability to troubleshoot damaged fiber effectively and efficiently


• Perform fiber tests with OTDRs, light source and meters


• Learn and adhere to all safety standards


• Must be able to read and understand blue prints, designs and work scopes


• 5 years previous experience

Experience with the following equipment is a plus:

• Fusion splicer, mechanical splicer, OTDR, power meters, traffic identifiers, digital multi-meters, cleavers, strippers, buffer tube splitters, cable ring tools, hand tools, toners, duct rodders, ladders, bucket trucks, etc. is preferred.

• Experience in carrier technologies a plus
