Job summary

Electric Power Systems (EPS) is hiring an experienced Fiber Splicing Technician to join our full-time team in Phoenix. You will terminate, splice, test, and document fiber optic lines within customer networks, with travel required to project sites across North America.

Candidates should have at least five years of fiber experience, familiarity with OTDR equipment, and a technical degree or certificate. CWDM/DWDM experience and clear communication are a plus.

Qualifications

• Five years of fiber experience required.
• Experience with EXFO fiber equipment preferred.
• Current fiber optic certifications preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform fiber tests with OTDRs, light source and meters.
• Terminate, splice, bonds/grounds and tests fiber optic equipment to standards.
• Perform installation of fiber optic equipment and patch panels.
• Read blueprints, designs and work scopes; troubleshoot fiber issues.

Job Purpose

Immediate full-time position for experienced Fiber Splicing Technician. Candidate will be responsible for the terminating, splicing, documenting and testing of all fiber optic lines within the customer’s network. Five years’ experience and experience with EXFO fiber equipment preferred. Must be willing to travel. Current fiber optic certifications preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform fiber tests with OTDR’s, light source and meters
• Terminate, splice, bonds/grounds and tests fiber optic equipment to standards
• Perform installation of fiber optic equipment and patch and panels.
• Working knowledge of fiber optics
• Basic knowledge of networking
• Proficient in the operation of all related fiber tools and equipment
• Terminate, splice and install a variety of fiber optic connectors and enclosures
• Ability to troubleshoot damaged fiber effectively and efficiently
• Perform fiber tests with OTDRs, light source and meters
• Learn and adhere to all safety standards
• Must be able to read and understand blue prints, designs and work scopes
• 5 years previous experience

Experience with the following equipment is a plus

• Fusion splicer, mechanical splicer, OTDR, power meters, traffic identifiers, digital multi-meters, cleavers, strippers, buffer tube splitters, cable ring tools, hand tools, toners, duct rodders, ladders, bucket trucks, etc. is preferred.

Qualifications

• Associates or Technical Degree preferred
• CWDM and DWDM experience preferred
• Experience in carrier technologies a plus
• Positive attitude
• Strong communication skills both written and verbal
• Must be highly organized
• Must display strong work ethic, punctuality and attendance
