Placements24 is seeking an experienced Substation Engineer to design, develop and oversee substation projects in the Queenstown area and Eastern Cape. You will work on various configurations from distribution facilities to transmission-scale infrastructure, focusing on high-voltage equipment, protection, and control systems.

The role requires a strong engineering background, CAD proficiency, and the ability to coordinate with multiple disciplines.

Formación

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering is required.
• Minimum 6 years of experience in substation design and engineering.
• Strong understanding of high-voltage equipment, power system studies, and protection principles.
• Willingness to travel to project sites in Queenstown and Eastern Cape.

Responsabilidades

• Design and engineer electrical substation layouts, including equipment selection.
• Develop single-line and three-line diagrams and control/protection designs.
• Specify materials and equipment for substations and upgrades.
• Coordinate with civil, structural, and protection engineers during design phase.
• Review submittals to ensure compliance with design documents.

• Conduct site visits and inspections to monitor progress and resolve issues.
• Ensure adherence to national and international standards (SANS, IEC, IEEE) and safety regulations.
• Prepare technical reports, project documentation, and cost estimates.
• Assist in developing maintenance and operating procedures for substations.

About the Role

Our client, a prominent player in the energy infrastructure sector, is looking for an experienced Substation Engineer to join their team, serving projects in and around Queenstown, Eastern Cape. This role involves the design, development, and oversight of substation projects, ensuring compliance with technical specifications, safety standards, and regulatory requirements. You will work on a range of substation configurations, from small distribution facilities to larger transmission-level infrastructure. The ideal candidate possesses a strong background in high-voltage equipment, protection and control systems, and project coordination. This position offers a challenging yet rewarding opportunity to contribute to vital energy infrastructure development in the Eastern Cape.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and engineer electrical substation layouts, including equipment selection (transformers, switchgear, busbars, circuit breakers).
• Develop single-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, schematic diagrams, and control/protection system designs.
• Specify materials and equipment for substation construction and upgrades.
• Coordinate with other disciplines, such as civil, structural, and protection engineers, during the design phase.
• Review contractor submittals and ensure compliance with design documents.
• Provide technical support during the construction, testing, and commissioning phases of substation projects.
• Conduct site visits and inspections to monitor progress and resolve technical issues.
• Ensure adherence to relevant national and international standards (e.g., SANS, IEC, IEEE) and safety regulations.
• Prepare technical reports, project documentation, and cost estimates.
• Assist in the development of maintenance and operational procedures for substations.

Requirements

• Willingness to travel to project sites in the Queenstown area and other locations within the Eastern Cape as required.
