Placements24 client seeks a Senior Electrical Design Engineer to lead industrial electrical design projects in Queenstown, Eastern Cape. You will conceptualize, design, and oversee implementation of power distribution, MCCs, lighting, and earthing systems for plants, processing facilities, and utility infra.

You will prepare drawings in AutoCAD Electrical and Revit MEP, perform load calculations and fault analysis, ensure compliance with SANS/IEC, and mentor junior engineers while assisting

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
• Minimum 7 years of experience in industrial electrical design.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD Electrical and Revit MEP.
• Knowledge of SANS/IEC electrical standards and regulations.

Responsibilities

• Lead the electrical design process for industrial projects from concept to construction support.
• Prepare electrical drawings, schematics, single-line diagrams, and specs using CAD tools.

About the Role

Our client, a well-established engineering consultancy firm specializing in industrial infrastructure, is seeking a highly capable Senior Electrical Design Engineer to join their team in Queenstown, Eastern Cape . This role is pivotal in delivering comprehensive electrical design solutions for a diverse range of industrial projects, including manufacturing plants, processing facilities, and utility infrastructure. You will be responsible for conceptualizing, designing, and overseeing the implementation of electrical systems, ensuring they meet all safety, regulatory, and client specifications. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in industrial electrical design, strong analytical skills, and the ability to manage design projects effectively. Key Responsibilities

• Lead the electrical design process for industrial projects, from initial concept development through to detailed design and construction support.
• Prepare electrical drawings, schematics, single-line diagrams, and specifications using industry-standard CAD software.
• Design power distribution systems, motor control centers (MCCs), lighting systems, and earthing systems.
• Perform load calculations, fault current analysis, and ensure compliance with relevant electrical codes and standards (e.g., SANS, IEC).
• Specify electrical equipment such as transformers, switchgear, generators, and UPS systems.
• Collaborate with other engineering disciplines (mechanical, civil, process) to ensure integrated project design.
• Conduct design reviews, value engineering studies, and provide technical guidance to junior engineers.
• Assist in the preparation of tender documents, Bills of Quantities (BoQ), and cost estimates.
• Provide technical support during the construction and commissioning phases, resolving site queries and issues.
• Stay updated on new technologies and industry best practices in industrial electrical engineering.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent qualification.
• Minimum of 7 years of experience in electrical design engineering, with a significant focus on industrial projects.
• Proficiency in electrical design software (e.g., AutoCAD Electrical, Revit MEP) and simulation tools.
• Strong understanding of industrial power systems, including high-voltage and low-voltage distribution.
• Knowledge of relevant South African electrical standards and regulations.
• Experience with project management principles and coordinating design efforts.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team environment.
• Registered or eligible for registration with ECSA as a Professional Engineer or Technologist is highly preferred.
• Experience with hazardous area classifications and intrinsically safe design is a plus.
