Formación

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering with specialization in Power Systems.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in power system protection engineering.
• Deep knowledge of protective relaying principles, relay types, and applications.
• Experience with power system analysis software for fault and protection studies.
• Familiarity with substation equipment and configurations.
• Understanding of power system dynamics and grid codes.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
• Ability to work independently and manage project priorities.
• Professional registration with ECSA is highly preferred.

Responsabilidades

About the Role

Our client, a major utility provider responsible for the electrical infrastructure across a significant region, is seeking an experienced Power Systems Protection Engineer to join their team in Queenstown, Eastern Cape. This role is paramount to ensuring the stability, reliability, and safety of the electrical grid by designing, implementing, and maintaining protection systems for substations and transmission lines. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of power system dynamics, protective relaying schemes, and fault analysis. This is an on-site position, critical for maintaining the integrity of the power supply in the Eastern Cape.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, specify, and commission protective relaying schemes for power transformers, generators, transmission lines, and busbars.
• Perform fault studies, including short-circuit analysis and transient stability studies, to ensure adequate protection.
• Select appropriate protective relays, circuit breakers, and associated equipment.
• Develop and maintain protection system settings and coordination studies.
• Troubleshoot and analyze protection system maloperations and system disturbances.
• Review and approve protection designs submitted by external consultants.
• Ensure compliance with national and international standards for power system protection (e.g., IEC, IEEE).
• Collaborate with other power systems engineers, substation engineers, and field operations personnel.
• Develop and deliver training on protection system concepts and equipment.
• Maintain accurate records of protection settings, test results, and system configurations.

Requirements
