GAI Consultants in Overland Park, KS is seeking a Technical Specialist (Electrical Engineer) to join the Power Delivery Substation Department. The role focuses on detailed design of substations and related drawings, with frequent coordination with CAD operators and field site verification.

Candidates should have a BS in Electrical Engineering, strong communication and time-management skills, and proficiency with MS Office.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited program with a strong academic background in electrical power concepts/AC power systems analysis.
• Strong written and oral communication skills to work effectively with internal team members and external client personnel.
• Detail-oriented and professional with a Client First approach to all interactions.
• Ability to work on multiple assignments simultaneously and possess strong time management skills.
• Proficient with MS Office applications.

Responsibilities

• Perform detailed design of low to extra-high-voltage substations and switchyards.
• Develop and revise drawings for one line, physical arrangement, electrical schematics, electrical wiring diagrams, grounding, conduit and wire schedules, bill of materials, site development, battery sizing, and equipment layout, including coordinating with CAD operators to develop organized, quality CAD drawings.
• Integrate physical layout and design of substations to interface with protection and control drawings or vice versa.
• Develop control and relay panel layouts including assembling the specifications.
• Create project criteria.
• Develop design specifications including the overall bill of materials.
• Design and size auxiliary systems including AC/DC load centers as well as batteries and chargers.
• Design and size conduit, cable, and backup generators.
• Travel to client and vendor offices for design reviews.
• Travel to site locations for construction coordination and field verification of designs.
• Assist with the technical development of the scope of services and cost estimates for substation and P&C projects.
