HDR is seeking an entry-level Substation Designer to join our expanding Power Delivery team in North Carolina. The role involves preparing electrical substation designs and related drawings across low, medium and high voltage projects.

You will gain experience in protection and control as well as physical designs while working with Designers and CADD Technicians. The position emphasizes growth, knowledge acquisition and collaboration within an employee-owned culture.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
• EIT certification strongly preferred; if not, will be titled Substation Designer and must obtain EIT for progression.
• Experience using AutoCAD.
• Experience using MicroStation.
• Prior experience consulting or working for an electric utility.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work in a team environment.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Self-motivated and proactive.

Responsibilities

• Prepare engineering drawings, calculations, analyses, reports and designs for electrical substations (Low, Medium and High Voltage).
• Prepare calculations, design sketches and redline drawings.
• Coordinate with Designers and CADD Technicians to develop drawings per national standards, safety codes and project specs.
• Develop design deliverables including one-line diagrams, protection & control Schematics, wiring diagrams, SCADA schemes, and substation layouts.
• Perform site visits during design, construction and as-built phases.
