Job summary

Automatic Data Processing, Inc. is seeking a Substation Engineer in Madison, WI. The role is hybrid out of our Madison office with relocation assistance and potential travel to surrounding states.

You will lead substation design projects, develop diagrams, provide technical consulting, and manage projects from design through construction while collaborating with clients and internal teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (preferred).
• Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain.
• 1+ years of experience in transmission, distribution, or substation engineering.
• Strong knowledge of substation design, protection & control systems, and utility operations.
• Experience in power system protection, design, and operations.
• Experience in overcurrent coordination and SEL relay settings development is preferred.
• Working knowledge of AutoCAD, Adobe Acrobat or Bluebeam, MS Excel, and MS Word is required.
• Working knowledge of NEC, IEEE, and ANSI standards and electric codes is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead substation design projects and project management.
• Develop engineering designs and drawings (one-line/three-line diagrams, wiring, AC/DC schematics).
• Provide technical consulting on substation design and utility operations.
• Manage projects from design through construction including budgeting and scheduling.
• Collaborate with internal teams, clients, and contractors for project delivery.
• Conduct site visits for inspections, construction oversight, quality assurance.
• Support construction activities including installation, testing, commissioning.
• Perform technical reviews to ensure standards compliance.
