Job summary

PayCruit is seeking a Substation Design Engineer to work remotely with local Johnston, RI office access for site walks five times a year. The role requires 6+ years in estimates, feasibility studies, and substation design with experience in transmission distribution substations.

You will prepare BoMs, conduct design work, and write technical reports and estimation packages while traveling to job sites within the client territory as needed.

Qualifications

• BS degree in engineering (electrical, mechanical, or civil preferred).
• Experience designing electric utility substations, minimum 5 years.
• Ability to write technical reports and estimation packages.
• Knowledge of National Electrical Safety Code (NESC).
• Proficient in AutoCAD and standard desktop PC applications.

Responsibilities

• Design electric utility substations and perform related design tasks.
• Prepare estimates, feasibility studies, and BoMs for substations.
• Produce technical reports and estimation packages for projects.
• Collaborate with field teams and clients to support site visits and project executions.

Job Location : Remote - Johnston RI

Job Duration : 12+ months contract

Job Description: Callouts:

- This role is remote but needs to be local to the Johnston Office in RI so they can visit for site walks 5 times a year.

- 6+ years of experience preparing estimates, feasibility studies, understanding electrical engineering drawings, project lifecycle

- Previous Substation Design experience required

- Experience with bill of materials, transmission distribution substations required

- Needs to have the ability to write technical reports and estimation packages

Skills / Experience:

Required:

• BS degree in engineering (electrical, mechanical, or civil preferred)
• Must be able to travel to job sites within Client service territory as needed
• Must have a valid driver’s license
• Must be able to work five 8-hour days Monday through Friday at Client’s Main office
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience designing electric utility substations
• Must have working knowledge of National Electrical Safety Code (NESC)
• Must be proficient in AutoCAD
• Must possess strong interpersonal, communications and technical skills
• Demonstrated proficiency with standard desktop PC applications
• Knowledge and ability to apply Company safety and industrial hygiene policies. Awareness of safety rules and environmental hazards, and ability to take appropriate action to ensure safety to personnel, the public, and environment.
• Ability to handle multiple projects, to prioritize and organize work effectively, and adjust to changing priorities and workload in a timely, thorough manner
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment
• Ability to achieve confined space certification and ascend/descend on ladders to enter manholes and vaults

Preferred:

• 10 years’ experience in substation design
• 3 years’ experience in project management
