Job summary

Dashiell, an operating unit of Quanta Services, is seeking an experienced Civil/Structural engineer for our Preconstruction group in Houston, TX. You will support civil/structural scope on high-voltage substation EPC projects, sitting at the intersection of engineering, estimating and procurement.

This role requires developing takeoffs, unit quantities, and bid packages, while mentoring junior engineers and coordinating with procurement to ensure schedule and cost quality.

Qualifications

• Experience with structural analysis and design for substation applications (equipment foundations, bus support structures, control buildings).
• Experience developing civil/structural estimates and quantity takeoffs for high voltage substation projects (4kV–765kV).
• P.E. license preferred; licensure pursued considered.
• Familiarity with design codes: ACI 318, AISC 360, ASCE 7, IEEE 693.

Responsibilities

• Perform material takeoffs and cost estimates for substation EPC projects from concept to firm price proposals.
• Develop quantities for concrete, reinforcing steel, structural steel, earthwork, drainage and civil infrastructure from drawings.
• Prepare estimate basis docs and risk logs; communicate scope inclusions and exclusions clearly.
• Mentor junior civil/structural engineers and share estimating best practices.
• Review geotechnical reports and apply findings to foundation design assumptions.
• Collaborate with procurement to align lead times and vendor qualifications with project schedule.
